Mayla participated in the 2026 SD Music Education Association Elementary Honor Choir today. She was one of approximately 160 students to earn a seat in the choir. Congratulations, Mayla and all the EHC members on a fantastic concert!

Congratulations to the following students for being selected for the South Dakota North Area Honor Band: Wyatt Huber- first chair tenor sax Jordan Kaiser- second chair horn Zoey Zweber- second chair percussion NAHB is held on the campus of NSU at the JFAC on Friday, December 4th and Saturday, December 5th. Mr. Jeff Patzlaff, retired band director from Platte, SD will be the gust director. For the 35th Anniversary of the NAHB, we have commissioned a piece of music by composer Gavin Lendt (Kansas) titled the "Spirit of Aberdeen". The composer will be on site for the festival and the concert. Congratulations! 🎶💜

Winter Sports Update Wrestling for 6th-12th grades will have its first practice November 16th. A schedule will be sent out as soon as possible. Basketball for grades 7th-12th will not start until December, the date is to be determined. Unfortunately, I am unable to finalize our basketball schedules at this moment. We have a lot of schools needing to wait to see what they have for numbers, so they can determine if they have a JV team or not. The start date and schedule will be sent out as soon as I finalize all the games with each opposing school. 🎭 What a day for our Oral Interp students! 🎭

Students in grades 7–12 delivered 22 outstanding performances at today’s Local Oral Interpretation Competition. Their talent and hard work made for an entertaining day, with laughter and heartfelt moments, along with creating difficult decisions for our judges as they selected who will advance to Districts on November 4.

Performing for a large audience, especially one filled with familiar faces, takes courage. Our school community helped make this first competition of the season a meaningful opportunity for students to build confidence and strengthen communication skills they’ll carry beyond the stage.

Thank you to our judges for their time and expertise and to everyone who came to support our performers! 👏

🎭 Join us this Friday, October 23, for our Local Oral Interp Contest! 🎭

Our talented students will perform in the HHS Band Room beginning at 9:45 a.m. Performances will follow a rolling schedule, with each beginning as the previous one concludes. A short lunch break is planned from approximately 12 p.m. –12:30 p.m., after which performances will resume until all students have finished.

Join us to enjoy the performances and support our students as they showcase their hard work and talent! Guests are welcome to come and go between performances as their schedules allow.

Due to injury and low numbers amongst our team our football season has concluded early. There will be NO football game tomorrow Monday, October 19th at Northwestern. We are proud of our athletes and coaches for their hard work and dedication this season.

Reminder tonight's home volleyball games against Herried Selby will start at 6:00 pm! It is also Parents Night for XC and Volleyball and that will take place after the Middle School game concludes and before the JV game starts! Please plan accordingly so we can keep things rolling. It is also Pink Out so dress in pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Join us for our annual Trunk or Treat on Friday, October 23. We would love to have lots of trunks for the kids to Trick-or-Treat at! Weather permitting, this will be held outside in the student parking lot. 🎃🎡🍬🍭

Information for the football game today in Timberlake. Start time is 6:00 pm central 5:00 pm mountain time. Bus leave time has been moved up to 2:30 for football players and stats! Fans are asked to park in the south parking lot behind the flags (or on the street).   Please ask your fans to walk around the track and not on it .  There are some bleachers on the side by your team, but you are also welcome to sit in the grandstands on the south end (closest to the concession stand). Livestream is available on NFHS. Go greyhounds!!

The Build Dakota Roadshow will be arriving at the Hoven School tomorrow, October 8 at 12:30pm! Our 9th–12th grade students will be attending to explore careers, learn about technical college opportunities, and discover more about the Build Dakota Scholarship program.

Parents, families, and community members are welcome to join! We’d especially love for local businesses and employers to stop by and learn how they could get involved. It’s a chance to explore ways to support our students’ futures and help them see the opportunities waiting right here in the Hoven area after college. 💜
