🎶 Congratulations to Myra Reuer and Mayla Bengs for earning seats in the 2025 Elementary Honor Choir! Elementary Honor Choir will take place Saturday, November 1st in Sioux Falls. The girls will spend the day rehearsing with world-renowned composer Greg Gilpin and around 150 of their peers. Elementary Honor Choir is sponsored by the South Dakota Music Education Association. Congratulations girls! 🎶

Huge thanks to our superstar PTA for bringing the cool to the last days of school with a popsicle surprise! Smiles were wide, tongues were colorful, and spirits were high — the perfect way to celebrate an amazing year of learning, laughter, and growth. A heartfelt thank you to Mayla Bengs (and her parents) for generously delivering nearly 44 pounds of pop tabs — collected during our NHS 2nd Annual PopTab Challenge — to the Ronald McDonald House in Rochester, MN! We’re so grateful to all who contributed to this meaningful effort. Your support helps provide care and comfort to families during challenging times. Keep saving those pop tabs—we’re already looking forward to next year’s challenge! 💜🩶

The 5th/6th and 3rd/4th music classes celebrated Star Wars Day this week by studying composer John Williams and playing light saber beats! 🎶

On Wednesday, April 30, the National Honor Society held its Candle Lighting Induction Ceremony inducting five students to join the Hoven Chapter of the NHS. Those inducted were Erica Sautner (Chad and Lori), Dannika Kaup (Jason and Kay), Addison Griese (Andy and Ashley), Casey Hageman (Darin and Jennie), and Jaxon Hartung (Jesse and Kindra). In order to be eligible to apply for induction, students must meet the requirements of a minimum of a 3.2 cumulative GPA, complete all application requirements, and receive majority staff approval. This year’s officers were President Jonah Pribyl, Vice President Abby McGuire, Secretary/Treasurer Taylyn Rausch; Historian Ethan Johnson, and Keeper of the Seal Lane Stuwe. Congratulations to our NHS students on earning this distinguished achievement and exemplifying the epitome of the NHS through scholarship, leadership, character and service. 💙💛

🔬 Real-World Forensics Comes to HHS! 🕵️‍♀️ Today during our Learning by Doing afternoon, students at HHS had the exciting opportunity to learn from a special guest speaker — Samantha Shaw, a Forensic Scientist with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI). Samantha shared an engaging overview of the field of forensics, including the various specialty areas within the discipline. She focused on her expertise in DNA analysis and guided students through a series of hands-on activities. Students lifted their own fingerprints, compared crime scene prints to suspect samples, analyzed DNA evidence to solve a mock bank robbery and determine parentage in a case involving a child switched at birth, and examined differences in firearm-related evidence. We are incredibly grateful to Samantha for taking the time to visit and inspire our students with her knowledge and passion for forensic science. Experiences like this bring learning to life and spark curiosity for future careers! #SDWeekofWork

Hoven School will be having a bake sale on Friday, April 11th at 6:00 PM (before the Elementary Spring Concert). All proceeds will go to 1st grade teacher, Mrs. Mitzel, to help defray medical costs from her accident last Fall.
