The School District

The Hoven School District is a public school district in Potter County and is located in the City of Hoven. Hoven is located in northeastern South Dakota. Students receive an excellent education with highly regarded academic programs and extracurricular activities.

Hoven High School offers elective courses in music, agriculture, history, and wellness in addition to the core curriculum. Students enjoy small class sizes with teachers, while also having the opportunity to take dual-credit and/or online classes.

Students in grades 7-12 participate in Learning by Doing on Friday afternoons, which provides them with additional learning opportunities including areas of personal interest to each student.

Athletically, the Hoven Greyhounds returned to 'stand-alone' sports in 2025-2026 after 13 years of participating in a sports cooperative with Gettysburg as the Potter County Battlers.

With incredible support from parents, staff, the community, PTA, Hoven Sports Booster Club, Hoven Community Foundation, and Maas Foundation, students in Hoven Schools receive a first-rate education and are the pride of their community.

The Hoven School District provides education for kindergarten through 12th grade. The district has approximately 115 total students (K-12) and will be increasing in the coming years. The average class size is 8.

The Community

Hoven has a population of 410, is 75 miles west of Redfield, 85 miles southwest of Aberdeen, 82 miles northeast of Pierre, and 2 ½ hours south of Bismarck, ND. Even though the town is small, it has a lot to offer. Hoven has a daycares, a grocery store, gas station, post office, bank, hardware store, restaurant, hair salon, wellness center, photography studio, swimming pool, Cathedral on the Prairie, volunteer fire department and ambulance. Hoven is in Potter County, where many hunting and fishing opportunities are available.
